The Romanian National Youth Orchestra assembles the brightest musicians from Romania for a unique creative experience, in the common pursuit of musical excellence.

The youngest symphonic orchestra in Romania was founded in 2008 at the initiative of Artistic Director and cellist Marin Cazacu, with the help of “The Friends of Music – Serafim Antropov” foundation and the Romanian Ministry of Culture.

From the beginning, Cristian Mandeal assured the technical and artistic directing of the Romanian National Youth Orchestra.

The Romanian National Youth Orchestra's academic programme strives to offer young musicians the opportunity to explore demanding repertoire through master classes and concerts, and more importantly, to participate in the joy of music-making under esteemed conductors such as Cristian Mandeal, Cristian Măcelaru, Gabriel Bebeșelea, Michael Sanderling, Lawrence Foster, Kristjan Järvi and Domingo Hindoyan and with leading soloists including Pinchas Zukerman, Sarah Chang, David Garrett, Fazil Say, Nobuyuki Tsujii, Elizabeth Leonskaja, Bogdan Băcanu, Peter Sadlo, Daniel Ciobanu and Andrei Ionita.

Touring regularly at leading venues throughout Europe, the orchestra has earned a reputation for delivering performances at the highest level characterized by virtuosity, abandon, joy and drama. The orchestra’s concerts at the Romanian Athenaeum and the George Enescu International Festival are regularly sold out and international tours have brought them to the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie de Paris, Musikverein Vienna, Vienna Konzerthaus, Auditorium Santa Cecilia in Rome, BOZAR Brussels, Grande Theatre de Provence in Aix-en-Provence, the Gustav Mahler International Festival, Ravello International Festival, to Beijing, Luxemburg, Geneva, Lyon, Istanbul, Salzburg and Linz.

Since november 2008 the ensemble is a member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras – EFNYO.

The Orchestra is considered "the jewel of Romanian musical life" and one of the most successful musical projects in the last 30 years.
