Gabriel Bebeșelea appointed Principal Conductor of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic

PREDANVOIGT International Arts Management is delighted to announce the appointment of Gabriel Bebeșelea as Principal Conductor of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic Bucharest effective immediately. At 33 years of age, he becomes the youngest Principal Conductor in the history of this prestigious institution that recently celebrated its 150th season.

The appointment is the culmination of many successful appearances with the orchestra over the last years and was announced on Thursday at the Romanian Athenaeum. Speaking of the appointment, Gabriel Bebeșelea said:

“It is an orchestra with which I had a special energy, and together with the orchestra and the choir, whom I thank very much for their trust, we always enjoyed an alchemy that was, of course, very much ‘warmed' by the dome of the Athenaeum. I am sure that together we will achieve very beautiful things, as long as we manage to get through this period in which the safety of the musicians and the safety of the audience is the most important thing.”

As to the strategy of repertoire, he commented:

“There will be some very special connections between the works, and this will also create a certain diversification of the repertoire. Even if the repertoire of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic is huge, I am interested in approaching several stylistic periods often in the same concert, for a greater range of emotions that we want to convey to the audience."

Andrei Dimitriu, General Manager of the Orchestra, said:

"I think his presence in conducting the orchestra is a big gain."

Bebeșelea, former Principal Conductor of the National Romanian Opera House of Cluj-Napoca and the Romanian National Opera of Iaşi, is also Principal Conductor of the "Transylvania" State Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj-Napoca, Chief Conductor of the Philharmonic of North Macedonia and Artistic Director of the ensemble Musica Ricercata.

Hailed by the George Enescu Festival Journal as “one of the most gifted conductors born in the last decades in Romania”, Gabriel Bebeşelea enjoys a vibrant career, leading internationally acclaimed ensembles including the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov”, the Bochumer Symphoniker, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava and the Ulster Orchestra.

Upcoming debuts include the Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille, the Orchestre National de Lille and the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
